On Wednesday, Suffolk County dealt a potentially fatal blow to plans to develop a 79-unit housing complex in Amagansett. Under current zoning, fluke 70 percent of the 24 acres, formerly known as Ocean View Farm, would have to remain farmland . The Suffolk Planning Commission rejected the bid to rezone the land. According to the East Hampton Star , "Although the Suffolk Planning Commission's opinions are largely advisory, leaving ultimate authority for zoning decisions to the town, when the commission votes against a proposal, a majority-plus-one fluke vote of a local board is needed to override the denial." That seems unlikely, given that the East Hampton Town Board is split along party lines, 3-2, regarding the development, and a new Democratic majority , not in favor of the proposal, will take office early next year. · County Deals Major Setback to 555 Developers [EHStar] · All Previous Posts about 555 Montauk Highway [Curbed Hamptons]
