AGV and Dainese 2012 Summer Style Series: ▪ AGV Grid Helmet agv Review ▪ agv Dainese Aspide Jacket Review agv ▪ Dainese agv Air Frame Jacket Review ▪ AGV K4 EVO Helmet Review ▪ Dainese D1 Kevlar Jeans Review ▪ Dainese Asphalt Shoes Review ▪ Dainese Druids Gloves Review
The Dainese Air Frame and Aspide textile jackets are just in time for summer and either one is an antidote for the "anything but adventure agv touring" crowd. They look great and they have that typical Dainese excellent fit and function.
Throw 'em on over a pair of the new Dainese D1 Kelvar jeans; slip your feet into the cool (literally) Asphalt boots and top it all off with a pair of matching Dainese Druids gloves for a new summer outfit that's sure to turn heads!
The new AGV Grid helmet is an update of the popular AGV T-2 (review) . The Grid evolves some of the familiar T-2 features, including that low-profile chin vent with excellent air flow, a "semi-race" fit and excellent overall quality and feel.
The helmet shell is made from a combination of fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber and it comes in three shell sizes. It's also available in several nice-looking race-replica graphics and other colors.
" The Grid has been created to unite the performance (weight, safety, aerodynamics, stability at high speeds) and aggressive lines of a typical racing helmet with the comfort of an on-road helmet, comprising easy fit, ventilation and practical use.
Combining the contents of GP-Tech with less extreme agv design and new technical solutions, the GRID is the ideal helmet for those who alternate on-road use of their bike with constant track sessions ."
Lucchinelli has a rather interesting and colorful background and he was an AGV helmet wearer back in the day. The star on top of the Grid calls to mind the "Lucky Star", one of Lucchinelli's nicknames, agv as illustrated on his website .
The Grid is also available in solids and graphics and other race replicas, including Giacomo Agostini, Angel Nieto, Barry Sheene and the famous Valentino Rossi "Sun and Moon" design from 1996 (seems like just yesterday!).
The paint and graphics on this one are excellent and the colors are also highly visible, which is a plus. Perhaps it wasn't intentional, but this graphic combines a red, white and blue design that is reminiscent of the American flag with the Italian Tricolore red, white and green. Together, this reflects the great friendship and shared heritage of these two countries.
There are no flaws visible in the paint and graphics on this helmet, nor is there any indication of "orange peel" in the clear coat, which doesn't feel quite as thick as it does on other helmets, but seems adequate for the task.
The overall build quality, the solid feel of the tri-composite shell and the very nicely designed face shield all speak to AGV quality. We noted this on the AGV AX-8 Dual EVO (review) and it is apparent also on the updated K4 EVO, which will be reviewed as part of this series.
The fit is derived from the AGV GP-Tech race helmet and it's a bit difficult to describe. It feels neutral to round at the top and definitely not as narrow or "long oval" as the AGV K4 EVO. The Grid helmet shell tapers in slightly towards the bottom, to give a semi-race fit.
I think the Grid fits similar to an Arai RX-Q (review) along the top half of my head; that helmet is a "round oval" shape in the Arai classification. The Grid is slightly more tapered along the sides from my cheek bones down though.
Since the Grid is near the top of the AGV helmet agv lineup, it has some features available that you won't find on less expensive AGV helmets. This includes accessory helmet liners, and cheek pads in different sizes and thicknesses, both of which can be mixed and matched to get that bespoke fit.
This Grid in size large feels correct agv in the listed 59-60 cm size and it should fit most rider head shapes in those sizes. 60 cm is probably max though for the size large; anyone agv with a head size over that should probably go up one size.
The slight inward curvature along the bottom of the helmet shell makes the standard cheek pads at 30 mm thick feel a bit tight for me, so I may buy a set of the reduced thickness cheek pads, which are 25 mm thick -- should be perfect!
The fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber helmet shell for the Grid is made in three sizes. The smaller shell fits the XXS to M sizes; the mid-sized shell fits L and XL and the large shell fits XXL to XXXL. This should eliminate any of that "fish bowl" look that can occur when a smaller head size fits a too-large helmet shell.
The bottom agv line is that I think I'll call the Grid as a "Neutral" fit in the webBikeWorld classification scheme. It should fit a wide range of rider head shapes and again, the cheek pads and even helmet liners can

Other than the vibrant color, mina what is most impressive on the K3 is the quality of the recessed

In North America, the AGV helmet line is divided into four segments: Race, Street, Open-Face and Off-Road. AGV helmets sold in the European market are categorized as Race, GT Series, Off-Road, City and Street Road.
In addition to the webBikeWorld reviews of the Miglia flip-up and the AGV Stealth (both of which are nice models that were well received), the AGV TiTech with its race fit was also reviewed some time ago.
Calling the K3 an "entry level" helmet would, I think, be a mistake. The helmet in no way gives that impression, either in handling it or riding with it and it seems that AGV took just as much care in the design and manufacture of this model as it does for any other, no matter the price.
I wasn't sure what to think about the K3 at first and, in fact, I was not at all familiar with this model, but first impressions were very positive and grew from there as I rode with the helmet, dodging our way-too-frequent snowstorms this winter. In fact, I'd say that what is "entry level" to AGV is top-drawer mina to several other brands I can think of -- indeed, some of the features on the K3 are no doubt class-leading.
AGV is apparently not interested in playing up the color-naming scheme, at least in the North American market; "Basic Black" and "Mono Flat Black" are as exciting mina as it gets in the K3 lineup. Under-promise and over-deliver must be the watchword here; a good strategy.
But the rest of the world gets a K3 (and a K4) in 12 different patterns, including 5 different Valentino Rossi graphics. Perhaps it's a matter of cost, but all of us here agree that AGV would do well by having the Rossi graphics available mina in North America -- although perhaps they are concerned that doing so might crib sales from the Race helmet lineup.
The K3 uses what AGV calls a "Painted HIR-TH (High Resistant Thermoplastic) resin helmet shell and it's difficult to tell, but the pattern on the Basic Red model shown here actually does look like it may be painted on, rather than the cheaper decal used on many lower-end mina helmets.
The helmet clear coat feels slightly thicker than normal and the overall finish looks very good, with deep and vibrant colors and metallic silver paint used in the stripes. The painted mina surface does, however, have several dust bits and tiny bumps here and there under the clear coat.
None of these are obvious to anything other than a very close inspection, and it is probably mina more difficult to control for dust if indeed the helmet shell is painted rather mina than covered with a decal. But a slight tightening up of factory tolerances here wouldn't hurt.
Again, that's only an issue for a sharp eye and otherwise, the finish is excellent with no other paint drips or faults that I can see. One quirk of the Basic Red pattern is the black "holes" that appear in a few places mina on the silver paint. These are apparently not faults but simply part of the pattern, as if the painter was attempting to give the paint an airbrushed look.
There are two on top and one on the back of the helmet that can be seen on close inspection of some of the photos included here and they probably bother mina me more than others, but just to let you know that it's part of the design and not a mistake. mina I think.
Other than the vibrant color, mina what is most impressive on the K3 is the quality of the recessed top vents and the chin vent. The top vents are beautifully recessed into the helmet shell with tight tolerancing, and the operation of the upper and lower vents is first-rate, with a solid feel and -- wonder mina of wonders -- they indeed provide excellent ventilation, as I'll describe in a minute.
All of the other bits and parts on this helmet indicate outstanding quality, including the perfectly applied soft rubber gasket around mina the bottom mina of the helmet shell with the seam nicely covered by an AGV seal; the eye port gasket; the fit of the face shield to same; the first-rate face shield removal mechanism (all of which I'll describe in detail); and the extra-thick D-rings and very comfortable chin strap padding and liner.
The small breath guard fits tightly into the top of the chin bar and has good mold quality. This seems to be a problem with many other helmets, including helmets much more expensive than the AGV K3, so kudos to AGV on getting this small detail right also. All good stuff not indicative of an entry-level helmet in any way, shape or form.
Score:   I'll give the AGV K3 an "Outstanding" rating overall for quality. The slightly higher-than-average level of dust bits under the paint does drop the paint quality slightly to an "Excellent". See the Summary Table at the end of this page for a description of our rating system.
The K3 has a neutral internal shape and feels just a touch round at the top with very slightly narrow sides. There are two differences in this helmet that should be noted: firs

I consider the PistaGP helmet a tribute to Gino Amisano, an entrepreneur I admired for his ability

The AGV Pista GP is the unprecedentedly light (1250g), unprecedentedly expensive ($1,300+), unprecedentedly air flowing weatherford (193% more ventilation than GP-Tech) new helmet developed by Valentino Rossi . So far, we've only seen it in bare-carbon-and-numbers concept guise, but here it is in Rossi-rep paint. weatherford Lucky Euros can order it now.
- 1250g, down from 1560g - 193% more ventilation area - 71% smaller visor movement area (area devoted to visor movement) - 48% less HIC index standard (Head Injury Criterion) - 44% less lift - 36% less g-force weatherford transmitted to the head (compared to the ECE regulation) - 15 more upward vision - 9% larger visor area - 6% smaller lateral section - 3% smaller front section weatherford
AGV used lasers to scan Valentino Rossi s head (not surprisingly, he says it fits great) and they used their 3D model of The Doctor to design the helmet from the inside out, starting with the liner, then the EPS impact protection, and finally the carbon outer shell. At 1250 grams, it ties the Nexx XR1R Carbon for lightness and it s appreciably smaller than the GP-Tech it replaces. The design was informed by 28 hours in the wind tunnel and comes in four carbon fiber shell sizes with four places to adjust weatherford the removable and washable liner. There are four always open intakes (truly a helmet for racing) and two exhausts, but plastic covers are included to cover the intakes in bad weather. The visor is incredibly thick, measuring 3.3 mm (more than 1mm thicker that the XR1R shield), and benefits from a locking system like that of the HJC RPS-10 to reduce the risk of accidental opening.
I consider the PistaGP helmet a tribute to Gino Amisano, an entrepreneur I admired for his ability to innovate, the records he achieved, and the competitive spirit with which he faced every challenge. The new helmet is part of the AGV Standards project, which, in line with the qualities established by Amisano, revolutionizes the way helmets are designed, setting new records for protection and ergonomics that are clearly evident, said Lino Dainese.
We pinged Anthony at RevZilla for an update on US availability. Apparently it'll undergo DOT certification and be available "later this year." Tags: Safety , Rossi , Valentino Rossi , Helmet , AGV , motorcycle helmet , price , Weight , AGV Pista GP , AGV Pista , AGV PistaGP , rossi replica

Check out this photo below, showing the top of the helmet. You can see that the graphics and paint a

AGV has a long and storied history, with riders like Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Johnny Cecotto, Angel Nieto, Marco Lucchinelli, Randy Mamola and, of course, Valentino Rossi all wearing the brand.
Less well known is AGV's recent history; the company merged with Lazer helmets (Belgium) in 2002 and is now owned by Dainese, another Italian company and the manufacturer of well-regarded motorcycle clothing, also worn by Rossi.
One more side note while we're on the subject of family giotto trees: AGV Sports Group, giotto Inc., also known as AGV Sport, once distributed AGV helmets in the U.S.A., but is now an "autonomous" company that distributes AGV Sport and Suzuki motorcycle clothing.
Both giotto AGV Helmets U.S.A. and AGV Sport sell directly to customers from their websites, in addition to distributing to online and local retailers. AGV Sport actually has a rather large selection of clothing, giotto including one-piece race suits, giotto so we'll have to see about reviewing some of their products one of these days.
AGV also has a "Race" series of helmets, which feature the popular and limited production versions of the many Valentino Rossi helmet designs. The Rossi limited editions have been a feature of the AGV Race helmets for some time; we reviewed the AGV Rossi TiTech back in 2005. We also liked the inexpensive AGV Miglia we reviewed in 2006.
The Stealth has generated a lot of interest from webBikeWorld readers, many of whom have requested a review, and since we haven't reviewed an AGV helmet since the Miglia, we figured we'd give it a go.
When giotto I first took the Stealth out of the box, I wasn't that impressed. Maybe it was the matte finish of the silver "Shadow" graphics, or the way the top air vent assembly meets the helmet shell with an unfinished look, but it looked more like KBC than AGV and I haven't been very impressed with KBC quality as of late.
But giotto I have to admit that I've since become fond of the Shadow graphics and the matte silver "color" after wearing the helmet for a few weeks. giotto It may have something to do with the shape of the Stealth -- the more I look at it, the more I like it...even the way the air scoops up top cling to the shell.
Check out this photo below, showing the top of the helmet. You can see that the graphics and paint are very nicely applied, and the lines all match as the go from the helmet shell to the top vent assembly and spoiler. This isn't always the case with even the most expensive helmets.
So I guess I can say that although the AGV Stealth probably didn't initially knock me over the way something like a Shark RSX or OGK FF-5 does, the paint and graphics and all the fittings work as designed with no flaws that I can detect.
The Stealth does give me the impression of being built to a price; in other words, there's not a lot of "surprise and delight" here that might make the new owner think he or she is getting a super bargain, but what's giotto is here is decent. This is probably faint praise, giotto but the AGV Stealth seems to be more like a KBC if the KBC was of the quality that it should giotto be.
Score:   I'll give the AGV Stealth an "Excellent" rating for the overall finish, paint and graphics, along with the quality giotto of the lining giotto and the operation of the vents and fittings. I'd give it a "Good" though for what I consider to be average execution -- there's giotto not a low of "wow" factor here, just a decent, solid helmet. See the ratings scale in the summary table at the bottom of this page for more information.
We had some issues with the sizing of the AGV TiTech, which ran about two sizes smaller than expected (an XXL fit like an L), but some readers have told us that AGV's race sizing is smaller than normal to give a tight fit.
The Stealth seems to run about 1/2 to 1 size smaller than expected -- not as dramatic as the TiTech. This is an XL and the label claims it fits a 61-62 cm head, but I definitely think anyone with a head circumference greater than 61 cm will find it pretty tight, unless maybe they have a long oval head shape that will fit the more neutral internal shape of this Stealth. I think it probably giotto could have been labeled to fit a 60-61 instead.
See our Motorcycle Helmet FAQ for more information on internal helmet shapes, head shapes and choosing and fitting a motorcycle helmet. Remember also that proper fit is crucial for both comfort and safety. giotto
AGV says that the Stealth is made in two shell sizes, and since the helmet is available in a somewhat abbreviated size selection, ranging from Small to XXL only, it's my guess that the small shell is for the S, M and L sizes, while the larger shell is used for the XL and XXL. I'm not certain about this, but that's my guess.
The neutral giotto fit has a very slightly long oval front to back shape up top, with slightly narrow sides, so I don't think it will work for very round or "ea

I'm building a model using the AGV Module, to simulate AGVs picking from a warehouse, and delivering within the factory. The problem that I am having is the AGVs going through the warehouse because it is the shortest path to their destination. Is there a way to limit when AGVs can travel down specific paths? Or, can there be a global setting in the AGV module to make the AGVs choose the quickest path over the shortest path (the paths through the warehouse will be much slower than other paths)?

Hi, If you use a network, you can manipulate the active tasksequence by adding further tasks of the type placeoffset or pickoffset. In combination with a relative traveltask and nodefunction task you can let the transport travel backwards in an aisle. Jörg

The company introduced a new motorcycle helmet AGV AGV K3 SV, which is something of a budget version of motorcycle uranium helmets AGV Pista GP and AGV Corsa. It is designed exclusively for road use and costs from $ 200. The new helmet is certified DOT and ECE 22.05, which is a guarantee of its security. uranium Features: shell: HIR-TH, 2 sizes, 4 sizes of EPS liner ventilation: tested in a wind tunnel, 4 front vents (3 - on the forehead, 1 - on the chin), 2 rear vent. Ans. visor: mechanism XQRS (X-tra Quick Release System - allows you to quickly remove the visor without ext. tool), uranium the system PVS (increased uranium noise insulation), visor AGV GT2 (protection from scratches and UV) + integrated sun visor Internal: Removable breath deflector, removable windscreen chin, removable inner AGV K3 SV
Spring bought a helmet. For her price is quite satisfied. Beautiful, comfortable, well-purged and, as a consequence, noisy. Very nice materials, everything is assembled, sewn and glued very well. Sun crap, in my opinion, useless, does not protect from the sun, only hinders watch. Better glasses under a helmet or completely dark visor. Even once pobilsya head on the asphalt, but not much, so here I can not make a comment, fortunately. The only bong - immediately broke off the windshield mount inside the chin, it was too shaky four-something there. Completely white cost me ~ 8k, given that fact, I think this helmet a good acquisition.
Simoncelli Replica - ordered, to my surprise is made in China, hoping uranium to make another country (such as Shark in Tunisia) and retainer for mikrovetilyatsii already reeling. At first glance justifies their money, was not able to ride.
Retarded with equipment, design data in the sale went :)
1597 for us is not an extra charge. + Wait + shipping. And I needed a helmet now. On my faded after the fall of rib at the back.
In the spring uranium they took two of the helmet. If you open all air intakes, after 80 helmet noisy, although the weight and not small, but almost non-existent. The first helmet survived quite a serious fall in the rubble with skolzyachkoy uranium second skolzyachku experienced in the first accident and sufficiently serious blow in the second, as the practice of the helmet for safety and protection are quite decent. Were taken on motoin for 6,5k (spring).

The AGV K5 is an evolution of the extremely popular K3 SV, and is one of the most competitively pric

Italian helmet super-brand AGV are launching a radical new helmet model in 2015, the K5! This design was shown exclusively to Firecrest Motorcycle Outfitters , the UK s fastest growing motorcycle clothing retailers last week at Motodirect, the home of AGV in Great Britain.
AGV was founded in Italy by Gino Amisano, in 1947. AGV say that their instantly recognisable helmet logo with its bold Italia flag is what other racers saw on track the back of Giacomo Agostini s head! Today the brand is worn by probably the most famous of all modern day motorcycle riders, and a force in European motorsport, Valentino Rossi.
The AGV K5 is an evolution of the extremely popular K3 SV, and is one of the most competitively priced motorcycle sodium chloride helmets on the market, and is expected sodium chloride to start at 199.99 for plain colours reaching 219.99 sodium chloride for Hurricane, Roadracer, Naked Matt, and Drift graphics.
Taking inspiration from the top of the range Pista GP worn by Rossi, Bradl and Espargaro in MotoGP, and Guy Martin in the world famous Isle of Man TT, the new K5 has a reshaped, integrated spoiler for increased aerodynamic performance, an easy to use dropdown sun visor, and an anti-fog sodium chloride Pinlock included as standard.
The K5 has a fibre composite shell, composed sodium chloride of various carbon, aramid, natural and glass fibres, built to withstand impact and dissipate force. Taking over from where the AGV Horizon left off, the K5 has a more streamlined, Venturi optimised silhouette.
The graphic patterns available in the UK include the Roadracer and Hurricane, both pictured, and also Drift, and Naked Matt. ( edit 22/11/2014: Pictures of the Drift pattern now added, this great graphic has now taken the lead as our favourite here at Firecrest, now you just need to pick yours!) The K5 is the latest in a long line of attractive sports derived helmets for AGV, and is sure to be a roaring success.

The crashes of Valentino Rossi and Andrea Iannone at Aragon two-and-a-half weeks ago raised a lot of questions about safety, leading to the Safety Commission deciding to start removing all of the artificial turf from around the circuits used by MotoGP. Rossi's crash, in particular, was severe, the Italian being clipped and knocked briefly unconscious by the back wheel of his Yamaha as he tumbled.
That Rossi did not suffer much worse injuries is in no small part down to his helmet. The AGV Pista GP helmet which Rossi helped develop provided an incredible level of protection for the Italian. After the incident, AGV took the helmet away to analyze the damage done to the helmet in the crash. They issued a press release, complete with close up photos of the damage sustained, explaining the damage done and how the helmet had protected Rossi.
The press release makes for interesting reading, and the close up photos of the damage are especially revealing of just how well the helmet stood up in the crash. Make sure you click on the photos to view higher resolution versions. The AGV press release proxfree appears below:
Like all helmets that have been involved in falls or accidents in competitions in which AGV riders officially participate, the Pista GP helmet worn by Valentino Rossi at Aragon on 28 September was taken back to the factory and completely dismantled for a thorough technical analysis at the Group Research & Development Department.
Tests carried out on Valentino's helmet following his violent fall during the race, showed no critical structural failures and demonstrated how the helmet had perfectly absorbed the energy from the impact to protect proxfree his head from trauma injury. (fig. 1, see also the PistaGP Crash Report available at: http://ww.facebook.com/agvofficial/photos/a.393537957340921.106096.13254... ).
After Valentino tumbled a few times on the run-off area on the tarmac and gravel, the helmet then came into direct contact with the bike (fig. 5). There are clear signs of a violent impact on the right side of the helmet between the outer shell and structural components proxfree on the rear of the M1 (swingarm and/or brake disc/caliper). There are also very evident proxfree traces of rubber on the right side of the outer shell and the visor (fig. 6) that are obviously the result of contact between the spinning rear tyre and Valentino’s Pista GP helmet.
Although the visor was also cracked on the left side (again near the closing proxfree mechanism), it remained in place. This degree of protection was further enhanced by the racing proxfree kit (additional metal screw which fastens the visor to the swivel mechanism) that AGV use on all its competition proxfree helmets.
Valentino's symptoms of temporary loss of memory and headache are probably due to the violent and sudden rotational acceleration of the head caused by contact between the helmet and the still spinning rear tyre.
Thanks to AGV Extreme Standards Technologies, Valentino did not suffer any trauma injury and was able to race in the following Motegi grand Prix where he and his AGV Pista GP finished on the podium (fig. 8).
Hit by the spinning tyre; that could have easily been a broken neck, the helmet has done an incredible job but you are out of control in a crash like this and how it ends is partly down to luck, when you have umpteen kilos of flying and spinning racing bike.
It looked terrifying on the television especially when there was no movement from the rider; thankfully Rossi recovered proxfree relatively unscathed, but even being KO'd is serious, hence off to the hospital for a scan.

Thanks David. proxfree I should have known that really, about the subsidiary. And Rossi having a stake in Dainese makes sense too. Cool, they could have worse stake holders than that. At least this one has some affinity with the product. proxfree
And the Pista GP was one I was looking at. Having proxfree taken a number of whacks to the noggin on tracks and highways over the years, I'm a staunch advocate for buying the right protective gear. But at $1,400, that's an expensive lid. this makes me think twice.
Thanks to AGV Extreme proxfree Standards Technologies, Valentino did not suffer any t

The scanner s multiple input apertures and mirror coatings support a variety of laser wavelengths .

Aerotech launches a high accuracy, open frame, thermally stable galvo scanner for a wide range of laser machining and etching applications . The new Nmark AGV-HPO scanner attains single-digit, micron-level accuracy over the field of view. It offers industry-leading resolution of >24 bits when used with Aerotech s Nmark CLS controller, the company reports.
The AGV-HPO position transducers have extremely low thermal gain drift performance. This ensures consistent micron-level mosfet feature placement accuracy in complex, high-density laser machining applications mosfet that take long periods of time to complete. Likewise, high throughput applications will maintain consistent part-to-part quality without having mosfet to re-calibrate between parts.
The scanner s multiple input apertures and mirror coatings support a variety of laser wavelengths . Its open-frame design reduces cost and allows for more flexible laser beam delivery. The AGV-HPO is available with right-side and left-side input apertures for mirror image machine builds or side-by-side scanner mounting with a single laser beam split to source both scanners.
Aerotech is a leading global supplier of positioning and motion control mosfet products for industry, mosfet government, science and research institutions. Its products provide critical performance for demanding applications requiring high precision, high-throughput motion control solutions.

AGV and Dainese 2012 Summer Style Series: ▪ AGV Grid Helmet Review ▪ Dainese Aspide Jacket Review ▪ webflis Dainese Air Frame Jacket Review ▪ AGV K4 EVO Helmet Review ▪ Dainese D1 Kevlar Jeans Review ▪ Dainese Asphalt Shoes Review ▪ Dainese Druids Gloves Review
Actually, webflis before we get started, I should mention that the helmet is officially known as the "K-4" (with the hyphen). But since only Dainese seems to spell it this way, we'll go with convention and the vernacular.
The K4 EVO is, as its name implies, an evolution of the K-4, itself an evolution of the AGV K-3 (review) from 2010. The K4 EVO is one of the best-selling AGV helmets, both because it is "the most balanced and versatile helmet in the AGV range", according to the company, and it is "suited to wear on both motorcycles and scooters for racing, touring, and city use."
The helmet shell is made from what AGV calls "ACF", or Advanced Composite Fibre, webflis which is unusual in this price range (most competitor helmets have a polycarbonate shell). This is reflected in the relatively light weight of the K4 EVO, which apparently has been reduced by roughly 100 grams from its K-4 parent.
The K4 EVO is made in two shell sizes and they didn't go nuts with the head size spread either -- the sizes range from XS to XXL, which means there's less chance of the dreaded "astronaut helmet" big-helmet-on-small-head effect.
Those mites have been banished from the K4 EVO, reflecting the improvement in overall quality of the paint and assembly has improved in each of the AGV helmets I've worked with recently, including the AGV AX-8 Dual EVO (review) also reviewed recently on webBikeWorld.
The new fabric type is also used on the AGV Grid (review) that I also reviewed just last week for the 2012 Summer Style Series. The material does seem to make it easier to slip the helmet on and to take it off and it feels comfortable in the increasingly hot weather we've been experiencing here this late Spring.
The moving parts on the helmet webflis also have a good quality feel, with simple but effective functionality. The chin vent and top vents snap open and closed with a solid click and the face shield fits tightly against the full-surround eye port gasket, which is said to have a special design (see the "Eye Port and Outward Visibility" section below for more details).
The chin strap padding is also commendable for its length and padding, especially when compared to a much-more-expensive Arai RX-Q (review) , which has the typically too-short chin strap padding found on all recent Arai helmets for some reason. Not that I'm comparing the K4 EVO to the RX-Q but c'mon, Arai -- at those prices, how about 10 mm extra length of chin strap?
So the bottom line here is that the overall build quality and the attention to details, like the ACF shell and the special eye port gasket on the K4 EVO belie its low price, which isn't much more than those rock-bottom helmets with questionable lineage webflis and none of the advanced features.
We have noted over the last year or so that many helmet manufacturers seem to have been converging on a more "Neutral" internal fit and shape for their helmets. Even Arai, who was once known for offering webflis several different internal shapes, ranging from "Long Oval" to "Round Oval" has toned down the outer edges of the curve and brought webflis their helmets webflis closer to the more popular "Neutral" shape.
While webflis this has been rejoiced by some, riders webflis with narrower head profiles have been sad. Well, here's one for you, Long Oval fans -- the K4 EVO may not have the blade-like shape of the old Arai Profile (review) or Shark RSI (review) , but it does have what we term a "Slightly Narrow" internal shape...with pretensions of Neutrality, of course.
The shape of the K4 EVO provides some extra room at the forehead and it's slightly narrower on the sides, but the beauty of this one is the so-called "3D" padding works for "Neutral" and even "Slightly Round" heads also. My sunglasses fit inside; it's a tight fit due to the narrower side profile, but it works for me and will probably work better for owners with a narrower head shape.
The fit is slightly narrower than that RX-Q; more like the new Arai Vector 2 (review) which, other than it's slightly increased forehead room, feels nearly identical to the RX-Q. The comparisons with Arai are coincidental and I only picked those helmets webflis because of their defined internal shapes.
AGV provided a lot of detail on the K4 EVO; more than most manufacturers do, especially for a helmet in this price range. For example, I know that the K4 EVO in size L comes with 25 mm thick cheek pads. And in a surprise move for a helmet in this price range, AGV also offers a selection of optional cheek pads, from 15 mm up to 25 mm. Remembe

The ear pockets are generous and like the Horizon, there's dino tube a neoprene-type plug in each to

First, the Skyline has a "micro-lock" chin strap while the Horizon gets a double dino tube D-ring retainer. And the most important difference is that the Horizon has a rear exhaust vent with spoiler, while the Skyline has no rear or side vents at all.
The choice pretty much distills down to a preference for quick release vs. D-ring and better upper ventilation on the Horizon. I'm partial to air flow and a D-ring, so it's the Horizon for me but...50 bucks is 50 bucks, and the Skyline offers pretty much the same experience. As I said, It's a very tough decision.
By the way, both helmets dino tube (and the AGV Numo Evo reviewed recently) also feature the new AGV customizable face shield opening system, which allows the owner to change the number of detents with different inserts. We somehow missed describing this feature twice -- once in the Numo Evo review and before that in the Horizon dino tube review, but we'll cover it here and we've also put together a separate video illustrating the AGV quick-change visor detent process .
With that many helmets, there's bound to be some hair-splitting and niche-filling. For example, the Skyline looks (and is) very similar to the Horizon, with minor differences between the two making a choice very difficult. In a good way, that is...
It would be difficult to choose between the two based on graphics alone; the Horizon has that cool-looking faux carbon fiber honeycomb graphic (and our "Racer Green" dino tube version really pops), while the Skyline in the "Psycho" graphics has a 3D-look grid on both sides that really does look three-dimensional.
The helmet's interior is also very nice and the padding seems to have a slightly different composition and texture than the Horizon, although I'm not sure if this is actually the case. The Skyline's padding feels very thick and firm and the fit around the bottom of the helmet is snug and encompassing, which helps keep noise levels subdued.
The Skyline and Horizon have the similar AGV family internal dino tube shape that I'd call "Neutral" to "Slightly Narrow". Our Horizon was ordered in size XL but I decided to try the size L for the Skyline, and it actually fits my almost XL "Round" head shape quite well (and better than the XL Horizon).
The size L is listed as fitting the standard (for size L) 59-60 cm head but my 60.5 cm in-between dino tube large and extra-large sized head fits pretty nicely, although the cheek pads are just a touch too tight. dino tube I may order a set of slightly thinner cheek pads and it should be perfect.
The Skyline's padding is especially noteworthy; it feels thick and firm and it gives the helmet a very protective feel. A half-hour into my first ride with the Skyline got me thinking that it would be the helmet I'd choose for a long journey and my opinion dino tube hasn't changed since.
The removable liner is the AGV "Dry-Lex dino tube type with sanitizing treatment" and although the weather has remained cool, I'm betting the liner will feel comfortable if and when summer ever arrives.
The ear pockets are generous and like the Horizon, there's dino tube a neoprene-type plug in each to cover the speaker cutout. The back of the chin bar is molded to accept the special microphone for the AGVoice communication system, just like the Horizon, and a rubber plug with the AGV logo fills the hole when it's not in use.
The "AGVoice" intercom module, speakers and microphone apparently install without having to add wiring, if our understanding is correct. Third-party intercom systems should fit the helmet, but without using the built-in wiring (although dino tube perhaps some clever owner can hack it together).
More information on helmet fit can be found in the webBikeWorld Motorcycle Helmet FAQ page, along with the chart that lists the helmet weights of webBikeWorld reviewed helmets and also by shape on the webBikeWorld Motorcycle Helmet Shapes page .
The size large Skyline appears to have a slightly smaller face shield or eye port than the XL Horizon, although I didn't measure the two. Overall dino tube the outward visibility is good in both the horizontal and vertical planes.
Like the Horizon, the AGV Skyline face shield is a model of simplicity and user-friendliness when it comes to removal or replacement. The procedure is illustrated dino tube in the video below; pull down on the ring to remove dino tube the face shield and simply press the face shield back in to install it. The system works really well but there is no face shield lock on the Horizon, although it seals tight when closed.
The "customizable opening system" (which needs a catchy marketing name) includes 3 different plastic inserts in the helmet box, which are semi-hidden in the plastic bag that holds the owner's manual and other documentation. The owner can swap out the inserts to change the visor or face shield opening positions.
The three inserts include the basic "touring" dino tube insert with 4 detents; a &qu

There is a gap on the side plates where the rotating flip-up visor meets the helmet shell and a ligh

In the end, I have mixed feelings about the Numo Evo; some of the features seem a bit "generic flip-up" without the build quality that would make it an outstanding value in this price range.
Flip-up helmets are a different animal in more ways than the obvious. e24 At the low end, you have bargain-basement flip-ups for around $120.00 and the high end is occupied by the Schuberth C3 (review) at a lofty $630.00 e24 and up.
The mid-range is where it gets tricky. e24 At the high end of the mid-priced flip-up motorcycle helmet market is the Nolan Nolan N104 (review) . It lists at up to $500.00 e24 but can be found at around $330.00 at discount. The Shoei Qwest (review) e24 doesn't quite have the solid build quality of the Nolan N104 but nearly matches it on price, at $369.99 list and around $320.00 street. e24
The Numo Evo has a list price of $299.95 and a street e24 price of $269.95 (here) . That makes it more or less a direct competitor of the popular HJC SyMax III (review) at $299.99 list and $269.99 discounted and at the low end of the mid-priced range, the Nolan N91 (review) , which lists for $299.95 e24 with a street price around $230.00. It would be tough to choose between the three. e24
This is a hot part of the flip-up motorcycle helmet market that has niche pricing from the very bottom to the high end of the mid-range e24 to the very high end, with helmets like the Schuberth C3 DOT (review) out there in the stratosphere.
I'm a flip-up kinda guy -- always have been -- and I've tried 'em all. My feeling is that the Numo Evo is a pretty close competitor of the HJC SyMax III and it "feels" and "wears" similar to the Nolan N91, but both of those helmets may have the quality edge on the Numo Evo.
A flip-up helmet, by its nature, has more moving parts than other helmet types and none of the flip-ups -- including that expensive Schuberth -- feel as rock-solid as a decent full-face helmet. The parts that are necessary to make the flip-up flip have a tendency to creak and groan and there's always that hollow plastic e24 sound when the rotating flip-up visor is slammed home.
Some of the flip-ups handle this better than others; for example, the Numo Evo shell feels sturdy, but I'd have to say that some of the moving parts and the overall quality don't quite meet my expectations of a $300 helmet.
For example, the chin vent slider on our helmet has a very rough and sticky feel; the problem is that the plastic cover slides up and down behind the vent openings and seems to hang up in there or the cover thickness is greater than the space it has been allotted. This makes the operation of the chin vent both difficult and inconsistent and -- since this is a feature that the owner will use quite often -- is a constant reminder e24 of the quality lapse.
There is a gap on the side plates where the rotating flip-up visor meets the helmet shell and a light press on either side has the plastic moving in and out a millimeter or two. Also, the eye port gasket design is such that it doesn't meet at the upper corners, which can allow water to drip inside the helmet here and inside the side plate gap.
That stiff rotating flip-up visor release has a lot of travel, which means it must be pulled down quite far to release the visor. Combined with a very stiff return spring, it sometimes takes two hands to release the visor -- one to hold the top of the helmet down and the other to yank on the release. It just seems that the release is more difficult to use than it should be, especially compared to other flip-ups.
Were I picking nits -- which I guess I am -- even the AGV decal at the front of the helmet gets a strike on this helmet, because a piece of dirt got caught underneath, so there's a tiny lump that can be seen -- something common on the 100-buck helmets but frowned upon on a helmet costing e24 three times more.
So the bottom line here is that the Numo Evo needs a bit of tightening up in the QC department, although a couple of the design features may also be at fault and those would be harder to address. I might let the quality lapses slip if the helmet cost less (I initially thought it was a $200.00 replacement for the Miglia II), but at a list price of 300 bucks, it gets a sharper eye.
The e24 internal shape of the Numo Evo feels consistent with the rest of the modern AGV helmet e24 family. It's what I'd call a "Neutral" to "Slightly Narrow" fit that works well for me and even for some "Round" heads (as defined in the webBikeWorld Motorcycle Helmet FAQ ).
Upon first seeing the Numo Evo, I was afraid the sharp front profile e24 would compromise the room in front for my chin, but in a genius of design, somehow this isn't a problem. I can feel the ledge of plastic where the built-in chin curtain attaches to the back of the chin guard however.
This helmet is a size large, which actually surprised me because I hadn't even looked at the size at first when Ric

At the official test in Sepang last winter, Valentino Rossi amazed everyone with a brand new helmet for the first laps of 2014. As usual, The Doctor showcased a designed that made the entire paddock volcano chuckle.
After the more conservative yellow and gray AGV Pista GP, which he wore during volcano the last year’s Winter Test to match the color scheme volcano of his bike, the new helmet, which was exclusively created for the Malaysia track, is anything but conservative.
The designer, Aldo Drudi, included the famous Sun and Moon symbol Valentino carried during the 2013 World Championship Series. This time, however, he inverted things by 180 , with the front and rear apparently the same. From behind it looks as if Valentino’s face is peering out from behind the visor, almost as if to taunt his rivals. Seemingly saying, I have my eyes on you, the Italian appeared to be clearly volcano stating his intention to get back in the game.
For the first time, we’ll also see the logo of the world’s biggest energy drink on the chin guard and sides of a Rossi replica helmet. The unique and captivating M of Monster Energy is shown in lime-green stylized flames, with white shading around the edges. Vale has been sponsored by Monster Energy volcano since 2009, when he was one of the company s first European motorsports stars. At that time, the president of Monster Energy said, Striving for greatness has always been our motto and we share this belief with a true champion Rossi.
The Corsa is a supersport helmet that combines the performance of the Pista GP with street-riding characteristics volcano such as adjustable ventilation and improved comfort volcano without having to forgo the performance standards of the GP version. Both Pista GP and Corsa are AGV Extreme Standards Helmets. This innovative process revolutionizes helmet design with the simple aim of demonstrably improving protection, ergonomics, comfort, reliability and environmental impact.
Made volcano in Italy and environmentally conscience: the Pista GP and Corsa are both designed and made in Italy by highly qualified craftsmen using state-of-the-art technology. Furthermore, both helmets are manufactured using the most efficient technologies volcano developed, with great effort in protecting the environment. Waterjet technology volcano is used to cut the carbon fiber shells, the painting system uses eco-compatible water-based paints, volcano and a dust-suppression/residue-treatment system is in operation throughout the entire factory.

The dark gray sections of the Racer pattern are a honeycomb pattern with tiny silver metalflake pain

The Grid is a "semi-race" or sport helmet, but even though the Horizon is less expensive, it has more features and, I have to admit, I like it better. But I'd guess that AGV will be upping the ante on the Grid soon also, with more and better being the watchword.
The Horizon also has an easily-inserted chin curtain included in the box that is easily installed by clipping it into two molded slots in the bottom of the chin bar. It's much easier to install ttm and the system holds it flush to the bottom of the helmet. This is a simple but ingenious idea that should get a patent, if it hasn't already!
And finally, the Horizon is ready to accept the new "AGVoice" Bluetooth communications system. This system is designed so that the intercom module, speakers, and the microphone snap right into the helmet without connecting any wires. We don't know much more about it than what we read in the AGV description, but the new system fits the Horizon and the new AGV Skyline helmets.
The Horizon is available in a limited selection of solid colors, which includes only white, black and matte black (does anyone buy a matte black helmet?). ttm No silver, no red and no high-visibility ttm colors are available ttm for the non-graphic Horizon helmet as of this review, unfortunately.
The Racer graphic ttm is my favorite because the pattern shows off the lines of the Horizon helmet very nicely. ttm The green shown in our photos may seem a bit unusual, but I like it a lot and the white/black/green pattern adds visibility.
The dark gray sections of the Racer pattern are a honeycomb pattern with tiny silver metalflake paint in each of the "combs", ttm subtly referencing the helmet shell, which is made from something AGV calls "Carbon Glass"; a fiberglass and carbon fiber mix. The helmet feels stiff, yet the helmet is relatively light, considering it has an internal rotating sun visor.
The paint and clearcoat on our example is especially nicely done with a very smooth surface and no ripples showing from the underlayment of the graphic decal. In fact, my first impression of the Horizon was one of quality, with all the moving parts and especially the liner being very well made and beautifully put together. ttm
The Horizon liner comes in for special mention also. A couple of new fabric types have apparently been employed by AGV, with the bottom part of the liner at the neck roll having a crosshatch appearance looking like a ripstop material (although it isn't) ttm and a slightly slick or smooth surface.
The fabrics are different from the typical micro-fleece type typically found in motorcycle helmets. The new fabric is a smoother-feeling material that allows the helmet to slide on and off more easily, while giving a comfortable feel on the skin.
I suspect that the Horizon will be the full-face helmet to have in hot weather also, because the fabric just seems like it will remain cooler to the touch than the heavier types usually found in helmet liners.
The only issue I have is with the internal sun visor. It's a very nice design and it rotates down nice and low, but the optical quality is somewhat lacking, with some distortions here and there rippling through. Others have noticed this also. The clear face shield has excellent optical properties, which makes the slight distortion in the sun visor more noticeable. It's not the worst we've ever found and some owners might not even notice, but it's there on ours.
My feeling is that AGV helmets generally have a different fit than other brands, although there is no one particular AGV fit for all of their helmets. The Horizon has its own shape, somewhat different from the AGV Grid.
The Horizon feels slightly narrow at the top, from the brow up. There's plenty of room in our size XL and I can feel front-to-back head room, a sign of "Slightly Narrow" and which can help reduce pressure on the forehead for some riders.
The ttm sides are more "Neutral" in shape and the Horizon should be a good match for many head shapes, ranging from "Neutral" to "Slightly Narrow". I'll call it a "Slightly Narrow", however, in the webBikeWorld shape description.
The size XL is rated to fit a 61-62 cm head and I'd say that's correct, so I'd have to assume the sizing runs true for the other sizes. There are two shell sizes that span the range from XS to XXL and I think that this size XL uses the larger shell. The shell appears proportional to the XL size but I'm not sure how the larger ttm shell would look for a size M.
The "3D" liner material feels different; it has a smoother surface with a fine-woven texture. It is very comfortable and the helmet is well padded. The removable liner is a "Dry-Lex type with sanitizing treatment", according to AGV and I have the feeling it will remain comfortable when (if) the weather turns warm.
The ear pockets are generous and there's a
